Jared McCain showed why he’s billed as a talented scorer

Stats: 27 minutes, 15 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 1 turnover

McCain had a mixed debut. His calling card entering the NBA was his shooting ability. McCain scored 15 points but was inefficient from the field shooting 40% missing all 6 of his three point attempts.

On a positive note, McCain flashed playmaking ability. He attacked the rim demonstrating an array of finishes. He changed speeds well and used his body to shield off defenders before completing multiple scoop finishes.

He utilized screens well demonstrating knowledge and patience to coordinate with his screener. When he recognized drop coverage, he pulled up for a midrange jumper and also delivered a slick left-handed scoop pass for a highlight alley-oop finish.

Throw in the fact that he competed on the boards, dived on the floor for a loose ball, and attempted an isolation out the post, and McCain flashed additional elements of his game that speak to the versatility and promise he possesses.
