The Philadelphia 76ers will definitely have an eventful free agency, but they must avoid making these four mistakes.

2. Overpaying for a role player could doom Philadelphia

Conjunctively, should the 76ers miss out on that third big name to help lead them next season, the wise move would be for them to ride the Joel Embiid-Tyrese Maxey duo and bolster the parts around them, something the team failed to truly achieve this season, thanks in large part to an early season major turnover and a bunch of injuries that sapped their depth.

That however, does not mean overpaying for role players when there are readily available alternatives who can also fulfill the projected role. It’s easy to double down on high-end starters, for example, but that often leads to a contract that would be difficult to escape from. Just look at Jerami Grant in Portland.

With a ton of roster spots to fill, the 76ers also need to be economical and reasonable when throwing cash at free agents this summer. After all, the best way to cope up with a lack of another star is to balance out the roster as much as possible, something that would be impossible to do with a bloated deal or two.
