The Philadelphia 76ers will definitely have an eventful free agency, but they must avoid making these four mistakes.

3. Stalling for a star would limit the 76ers

In relation to the first one, the 76ers also cannot afford to be too patient in their star-hunting ventures. Stalling for a star this year, which will see free agency negotiations start a lot earlier than usual, could severely limit the front office’s options when it comes to quality rotation cogs and roster fill-ins.

We’ve seen what happened to the Lakers before when they stalled for a shot at signing Kawhi Leonard, only to find themselves stuck with a depleted pool of remaining free agents. The 76ers must absolutely avoid going that route and see to it that they pivot fast in the occasion that their targets start to signal a lack of affinity with signing in Philly.

While there are still a lot of teams that are hard-capped, those that tout significant spending power would try to strike the iron while it’s still hot. Philly should do the same, as they only stand to lose big if they misplace their patience and stop being proactive at the worst possible time, which is at the beginning of free agency.
