3 Free agents the 76ers should sign after giving up on Paul George
3. Klay Thompson would be a cheaper alternative for the 76ers
Klay Thompson’s fate in Golden State is a big question mark right now. While the Warriors would probably still be best served re-signing the former All-Star, the veteran wing himself could opt not to stay in San Francisco any longer in search for a more prominent role moving forward following his demotion to the bench in the recently concluded season.
The four-time NBA champion won’t be eyeing the biggest payday available moreso than an optimal role, so the 76ers could pontificate the idea of bringing him on board, especially for a much cheaper price than his previous mammoth deal. After all, while he’s not the player he once was a few years ago, Klay is still Klay, one of the best shooters the league has ever seen.
Thompson’s decline has been bloated with excessive exaggeration. In actuality, he still enjoyed a very productive campaign as the Warriors’ designated spot-up gunner. He still made the fourth-most three-pointers in 2023-24, all while shooting a still-impressive 38.7 percent from downtown and providing length on the wing position. The 76ers could very well benefit from his skill set, which is a pretty moldable one within the team’s dynamic.
