76ers News: City Edition kit and NBA Cup court leaked, Morey gets big praise
It’s been a slow month on the news department this September, but that should be a short tale with the preseason slated to begin in a little while. The 2024-25 season figures to be a pretty significant one for the franchise in their title chase, and all signs point to the team truly being in the loop for the championship this time around.
Joel Embiid recently signed a three-year, max extension with the franchise, ensuring that he stays with the 76ers for at least five more years. Aside from that critical development, here are the latest bits around the team this week.
76ers News Roundup: New kits leak, Morey gets big praise
New kits in Philly?
For the fans and collectors, they might need to secure another spot for the jersey hangers at home. Philadelphia’s City Edition uniform for the upcoming season has been leaked, and while it’s basically a reprisal of the 2021-22 iteration, it’s still a pretty neat look. Heck, it was already rocked on stage.
The jersey pays homage to the Spectrum, which housed the 76ers for almost 30 years, bearing witness to some of the most successful stretches in franchise history.
76ers’ NBA Cup court looks more 76ers-ish
Speaking of courts, the team’s NBA Cup court design has also been leaked. Take it with a grain of salt, though, as it apparently came from a data leak in NBA 2K25.
Compared to last season’s NBA Cup court designs based on each team’s respective City Edition colorways, this one strikes more resemblance to actual team colors. Last season’s were too bedazzled with unfamiliar hues, so this is a refreshing update.
Daryl Morey gets some more love
Meanwhile, away from aesthetic considerations, Embiid’s re-upping with the 76ers was widely praised, shutting down the belief that the team is operating under a concentric, shortsighted window.
Kendrick Perkins heaped praises on Daryl Morey for the move, calling it one of the best moves of the offseason.
When I first heard this news, the first thing I thought about was that Daryl Morey is a bad mother-holy bleep. Daryl Morey as a general manager, he's one of the best I've ever seen.
We know, Big Perk. We know.
