It’s still a long wait before the 2024-25 season begins, but even so, the Philadelphia 76ers will never miss a beat when it comes to hitting the newsstands.
Thanks to Joel Embiid bringing the fireworks — both the good and bad ones — to the Paris Olympics, the 76ers star has been at the forefront of the booing scene, a trademark of the not-so-hospitable French crowd.
Joel Embiid takes a shot at France, explains USA choice
Embiid’s decision not to suit up for Les Bleus despite the French federation handing him a citizenship was widely criticized by the nation. Hence, it’s no surprise that he’s been the subject of constant heckling in the tournament.
Asked about what brought forth his decision to play for USA and pass up on France (as well as native Cameroon), Embiid stood firm and gave an easy answer.
It was a tough decision, but it is all about comfort level, and like I said, I’ve known these guys (Team USA players) for a long time and I just felt more comfortable than on the other side (France). There was some concern with the other side. Comfort level was huge. I always say I’m going to be where I’m wanted and these guys wanted me.
Maybe, the 76ers center meant that the Americans wanted him more. Sorry, Frenchies!
Furkan Korkmaz, king of trade requests, says goodbye to the 76ers
Meanwhile, remember the king of trade requests? Well, he has officially bid his farewell to the 76ers organization in a heartfelt tweet.
After numerous trade requests over the years, Korkmaz finally got his wish last season when the 76ers flipped him before the deadline to the Pacers (which subsequently waived him). It’s been a while since then, but it’s genuinely nice to see him cherish and look back at his stint in Philly that somehow spanned seven years.
In 328 games for the 76ers, Korkmaz logged 6.8 points in 16.6 minutes a night. While he was hot and cold from downtown, he was a dependable second to third stringer for the most part, never causing headaches despite his incessant trade requests.
Best of luck on the next chapter of your career, Furky!
