The Philadelphia 76ers will semi-officially unpack the 2024-25 season tomorrow on Media Day where they will address questions about the upcoming campaign and give fans a sneak peek, at least from an optics standpoint.

Correlatively, expect the newsstands to start filling themselves up soon. After a long period of inactivity, fans can now look forward to what should be a very climactic season for the relatively new-look 76ers team.

Here’s the latest on Philly with training camp just around the corner.

Jahlil Okafor tries out for new team, eyes NBA comeback

Remember Jahlil Okafor? Well, the 76ers’ former third overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft has reportedly signed a training camp deal with the Indiana Pacers.

Okafor, still only 28 years old, has been out of the NBA for the last three seasons., He last played for the Detroit Pistons in 2021 before playing abroad in China, Mexico, and most recently, Spain.

While Okafor’s career has gone downhill after an impressive rookie season for the 76ers where he normed 17.5 points and seven rebounds per outing, it’s nice to see him trying to carve a pathway back to the NBA. Hopefully, the Pacers give him enough exposure during the preseason to show his mettle and prove his worth.

David Jones cut to make room for Lester Quinones

Meanwhile, attendant to the 76ers’ latest addition in the form of Lester Quinones, the team has waived young forward David Jones to make room for the former.

The Memphis alum went undrafted in this year’s draft before getting picked up by Philadelphia to the tune of a two-way contract.

Jones actually played well for the 76ers during the Summer League, but unfortunately, the 76ers had to cut one of their three two-way players to pave the way for the Quinones signing which, in all honesty, is an unnecessary addition at this juncture.
