With the Philadelphia 76ers parading an even more star-studded roster in 2024-25, it’s almost common sense at this point to pencil them in as one of the most explosive squads in the scoring department. Between Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey, the team will have no shortage of elite scorers to alternate in between possessions and light up the scoreboard.

However, the 76ers’ scoring ability as a collective doesn’t simply start and end with their vaunted Big Three. Their role players are also capable of getting hot anytime, and one of those is Eric Gordon, another new face in Philly who signed with the franchise during the summer to the tune of a one-year, veteran’s minimum deal.

Eric Gordon brings a healthy dose of shooting for the 76ers

Anticipating an exit from Buddy Hield, the 76ers went ahead and signed Gordon for cheap, a good bargain addition given his pedigree and his well-fitting skill set within the team’s dynamic offensively.

A career 37.1 percent shooter on high volume, Gordon remains a more than respectable three-level scorer who can get his own shot when needed. He can hit from literally anywhere as one of the NBA’s league leaders in deep three-pointers, which he showcased primarily in Houston.

The 35-year-old is a bit far removed from his Rockets form, but he can undoubtedly supply whatever Hield provided in the latter part of last season. He can still drive aggressively to the basket, and create for others off the dribble.

As of writing, Gordon is probably the best bet to start at shooting guard for the 76ers, at least to begin the season. He can be the resident floor-spacer on the opening group to punish defenders doubling down on the team’s triumvirate of stars.

Having said that, the team would be wise not to expect much from him on the defensive end. At this point in his career, he’s not an ideal connector in switch-heavy schemes, though he still has the muscle to take on physical guards.

Nevertheless, the Philadelphia 76ers can count on Eric Gordon to be another stabilizer, regardless of whether he starts games or comes off the bench, a position where he’s thrived in the past.
