76ers starting shooting guard: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
2023-24 Stats: 10.1 PPG, 2.4 RPG, 2.4 APG, 1.3 SPG
One of the more interesting, yet understated storylines this offseason is whether or not the Denver Nuggets would be willing to pay a premium to keep their expensive starting lineup, which is probably still the most balanced opening group in the NBA. One of their key cogs, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, is a guarantee to decline his player option and enter the open market.
The 76ers were already rumored to be eyeing the two-time NBA champion, and it makes perfect sense as to why they’d want him in the fold. Caldwell-Pope is a steady 3-and-D wing who’s been an above-average three-point shooter the last four years and profiles as a reliable wing defender. He’s also someone who doesn;t fold in high-pressure situations.
KCP would give Nick Nurse a lot of switchability on defense, something which was elusive to him last season with the 76ers not having enough defensive ammo in the backcourt. As a starting shooting guard, he could be that plug-and-play piece who could provide whatever De’Anthony Melton shelled out, but better.
