The Philadelphia 76ers have taken part in an effort to honor the jerseys of yesteryear in 2024-25. The City Edition uniforms, which have become a recent trend in the NBA, will honor some of the best designs of previous generations.

The uniform designs seem to pay tribute to what 76ers players wore during the 1970s and 1980s. The text has a different spin placed on it, but they remain eerily reminiscent of the home jerseys that were worn during the early 1970s and were tweaked through the 1980s.

The colors on the side provide the updated look for the modern era of 76ers players, but it's the manner in which the uniforms pay homage that offers reason for intrigue.

The era that seems to be honored with this design was one of the most rewarding in franchise history. Julius Erving took center stage during the later years, when the original design of the uniforms had changed at least somewhat, leading the team to resounding success.

Between 1976-77 and 1982-83, Erving helped the 76ers win a championship and reach the NBA Finals on four different occasions.

As the 76ers embrace a new Big Three, the hope appears to be that history will repeat itself. Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey will lead a team that hopes to recreate the magic experienced by the likes of Maurice Cheeks, Erving, Bobby Jones, Moses Malone, and Andrew Toney.

The jersey can only go so far toward inspiring that level of success, but it's a tribute to an era that yielded results Philadelphia has spent decades attempting to rediscover.
