The Philadelphia 76ers have a slew of their players entering free agency this offseason, and by all odds, it’s highly unlikely that the front office will retain most of them. After all, the roster needs a lot of rework, especially on the margins, making it a necessity for the franchise to pursue a facelift to a degree.
One notable 76ers approaching free agency is Tobias Harris, who’s finally slated to come off the books for the team. Given Philly’s posturing, the front office is widely expected to part ways with the 31-year-old and seek better options to fill his role.
B/R predicts 76ers forward Tobias Harris to sign with this team in free agency
Bleacher Report predicts that Harris could face a slim market for his services in free agency, which lies in stark contrast with his previous market which culminated in him netting a king-sized five-year, $180 million contract with Philadelphia, much to the chagrin of the fanbase.
At this point in his career, it makes much more sense for the veteran to pursue a win-now destination, but that could prove difficult for his camp. After all, most of the teams projected to have ample cap space are long shots to be in the market for Harris.
In fact, B/R’s prediction is that Harris will sign with the Detroit Pistons. While a cellar-dwellar like the Pistons, owners of the league’s worst record this season, makes little sense, the Pistons are now sensing urgency to make win-now moves and build competitively around their young core. It must be remembered that the Pistons brass registered some interest in Harris prior to the trade deadline.
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and Tobias Harris’ stint with the Philadelphia 76ers will most likely end in a few weeks. Hopefully, he can find an ideal situation for him as he savors the last bits of his prime years in the NBA.
