Bold suggestion has the 76ers possibly trading a critical asset

The Philadelphia 76ers are probably not in the trading mood just yet, but with Daryl Morey, you can never say for sure.

Thanks to an eventful summer earmarked by grand spending to the highest degree, the Philadelphia 76ers boast a formidable squad with the 2024-25 season fast approaching. With no sample size to test out the roster, though, the front office is probably not in the trading mood just yet, at least at this juncture.

For a franchise led up top by Daryl Morey, though, one can never be sure about the parts staying the same, even early on. And given that the 76ers are operating with more urgency than before, it would be out of character for the front office to forsake any opportunity to improve the roster, even if that means foregoing the unwritten rule of testing the roster out before tweaking it.

Bold suggestion has 76ers trading a critical asset

The 76ers will likely gauge how they measure up against the best in the NBA before making any changes to the roster, but that won’t stop Morey and company from being active on the phone and making offers left and right.

Jared McCain, the 16th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, is more of a project for Philly right now. In fact, the team is not viewing him as an immediate solution, as evidenced by their signing of Reggie Jackson and re-upping with Kyle Lowry in free agency. By most accounts, he’s likely one to two years away from being a key rotation player, and that’s perfectly fine.

Having said that, there’s a reason as to why the 76ers were widely expected to trade away from the 2024 NBA Draft before coming up with the prudent resolution and staying put to draft McCain. The team is not engaged in being a breeding ground as of the moment, and from the likes of it, the front office would likely be warm to the idea of dealing him for a more win-now commodity.

Circumstances will dictate if McCain could truly find himself on the hot seat, but in case a pressing need itches the 76ers into action, he could be on the receiving end of a collateral damage that could ship him out of Philadelphia.

That’s just the way it is.
