Contender’s sleek signing proves the 76ers are making a foolish delay

The Philadelphia 76ers are simply delaying the inevitable.

The Philadelphia 76ers may have turned in a near-perfect offseason, but the front office still has room for another signing with training camp slated to open in a few weeks. So far, the glass hasn’t been moved just yet, but filling up the roster completely could go a long way toward securing their depth in the upcoming campaign.

Since signing Guerschon Yabusele, the 76ers have stood pat, intending to keep the last roster spot open to maintain flexibility. However, the team is not exactly young across the board nor composed of bona fide iron men. At some point, they will need to make full use of every available option to trot out, especially when the injury big hits them.

The 76ers should stop delaying the inevitable and sign Marcus Morris Sr.

Recently, the Mavericks completed a taciturn move, re-signing Markieff Morris to another one-year deal. That the older of the Morris twins landed with a team first, however, is a pretty surprising development.

Marcus Morris, who split time with the 76ers and Cavaliers last season, remains unsigned. While his role drastically declined last season after being a full-time starter for the Clippers, he still had the stylings of a capable role player who can hit three-pointers and leverage his size on defense.

The 76ers were reported to have legitimate interest in signing the Philadelphia native back, but those talks were quashed by the Yabusele signing. Still, the team still needs help bolstering the forward position, and Morris, for a veteran’s minimum signing, wouldn’t be a bad idea for an end-of-the-bench guy.

At this point, the team cannot be picky. Most of the serviceable names out there are now housed in new clubs. Marcus Morris, one of the few good players left, should be someone the 76ers should secure sooner than later.
