Unless you’ve been in a coma for years, you probably already know that the Philadelphia 76ers employ one fo the most aggressive executives in all of sports in Daryl Morey, who’s notorious for always dipping his fingers into any sweepstakes for a high-caliber star.
However, it seems like Morey can afford some rest for himself, as 76ers star Joel Embiid seems to be doing God’s work this time, apparently taking on a more active role in recruiting stars to come play in Philly. And now, he may have just confirmed the franchise’s next big recruit.
Joel Embiid’s recruitment tactic reveals thrilling 76ers possibility
According to ESPN’s Tim Bontemps in the latest episode of The Hoop Collective podcast, Embiid’s recent appearance on NBA Countdown was an impromptu one — the 76ers star only appearing after getting wind of the fact that Paul George was slated to be on the show.
Of course, Embiid didn’t stop there. He subtly threw a side eye on George after being quizzed about the 76ers’ potential additions in the offseason. George, of course, has long been rumored to be Philadelphia’s main target in free agency, though they will definitely have some fierce competitors for his services.
Projected the have the second-biggest cap space this offseason, the 76ers are one of the very few teams that can hand George that max contract he and his camp so desire, something they have yet to secure from his current club, the LA Clippers.
Embiid went on to make some fiery statements about the ongoing NBA Finals, even flashing his distaste for arch rivals Boston Celtics on national TV without reservations.
Anyhow, Joel Embiid seems to be taking a more proactive role this offseason which should ultimately bolster the 76ers’ chances at landing a big fish. His Olympic stint should also be another avenue he could capitalize on to further his fast-moving recruitment vehicle.
