NBA Rumors: 76ers linked to 4 new names as they fill final roster spots
The Philadelphia 76ers still have a couple of open roster spots up for grabs after a pretty intense offseason that suddenly put them in the pedestal heading into next season. So far, the front office has been slow-cooking the process, but training camp is less than two months away, and the NBA has already started releasing each team’s full slate for the 2024-25 campaign.
In the last week or so, the 76ers have been linked to a couple of names as they fill our the roster in veteran forward Marcus Morris Sr. and sharpshooting big Davis Bertans. Nothing has materialized yet in this regard as of writing, but it seems like the team’s brass is hellbent on explorinh their litany of options on the market.
76ers rumored to explore four, new options to fill out the roster
According to The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Keith Pompey, the 76ers are still in the market for bolstering the forward position, a department they are admittedly thin at. In conjunction, Thaddeus Young, Danilo Gallinari, Jae Crowder, and Lamar Stevens were floated as among the options the team could look at.
Young, who spent the first seven years of his career in Philly, has seen his role drastically reduced in recent seasons. He split the 2023-24 campaign with Toronto and Phoenix, but he remains unsigned for now. Nevertheless, he would be a nice addition as a frontcourt depth piece who can still play when need be thanks to his defensive versatility, post playmaking, and veteran smarts.
Meanwhile, Gallinari also spent last season in a minuscule role, this time for the Bucks. He remains available for taking, and while his offensive production has waned in addition to his lack of any semblance of defensive prowess, he’s an experience three-point shooter who packs size and even self-creation in spurts.
Crowder, who also played for Milwaukee in the recent campaign, is somehow yet to find a new home for next season. He is still a pretty functional role player, albeit in shorter servings, and profiles as a steady three-and-D resort for any team in need of malleability on defense.
Lastly, Stevens split time last season for Boston and Memphis. While he barely sniffed the hardwood for the Celtics, he saw a dramatic increase in playing time for the injury-riddled Grizzlies. A high-energy, intangibles guy, he could be a younger option the 76ers as depth insurance for their forwards. That he is a Philadelphia native should also have some bearing.
Clearly, the Philadelphia 76ers have a good pool of players they can choose from to fill out their final roster openings. Hopefully, they can maximize the waiting period and pounce on the player whom they think could pump more juice than the others.
