Paul George admits painful reality 76ers fans refuse to acknowledge
A lot has been said out of the Philadelphia 76ers training camp about their renewed spirit as bona fide title contenders in the upcoming season. And with the preseason having already begun, that same sentiment only stands to roar even louder, especially as the club finally gets to see some action in the hardwood.
Having said that, the 76ers aren’t alone on that cloud nine. The league is littered with teams poised for a bigger and better campaign. One team in particular, a key rival for the 76ers, has made waves recently after a blockbuster move, something fans have efused to acknowledge for obvious reasons.
Paul George, however, isn’t keen on sharing the same mumness.
Paul George admits resounding fact that 76ers fans refuse to acknowledge
In the aftermath of the official announcement of the blockbuster trade that sent Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks in exchange for Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo, George talked about the move and its potential repercussions in the tight race out East.
George initially joked about the trade being an awful one, poking fun at Towns, a close friend of his. He then went on to acknowledge that the Knicks would be very well-served having Towns on board, especially with his skill set.
Terrible! Terrible trade! Karl is awful! He’s old. That was a bad trade to give up Julius for KAT! I’m kidding. Obviously, KAT is one of my closest friends. KAT is a good touch. I think it’s a win for a win to give up Julius for KAT.
I think for that group for what they do [his presence will] kind of give more space in that offense to thrive. Obviously, KAT is one of the best three-point shooting bigs in the league, probably history of the league. I get the dynamic that they want it for.
George also admitted that the Knicks are clearly among the fastest rising teams in the league, especially after the kind of season they posted last season.
Obviously, the Knicks are on the rise as well as ourselves and a couple of other teams in our league. So they definitely made a splash in an epic way.
The Knicks, which eliminated the 76ers in the playoffs last season, now have one of the most lethal rosters in the association, at least on paper. The addition of Towns undoubtedly makes them even more dangerous, arming them with perhaps the best three-point shooting center in history, as he claims he is.
New York’s ascent, of course, is not a desirous point for the 76ers, which are on a quest to unseat Boston and claim the championship for themselves in 2024-25.
Now, the Philadelphia 76ers will have no choice but to ramp up improving their chemistry as a collective in order to overtake the Knicks and eventually, the Celtics, en route to hoisting the Larry O’Brien trophy after 41 long years.
