3. Jarred McCain
McCain got stronger as the season progressed. The 20-year-old was a starter from the jump but needed time to adjust to the college game. Over his final 24 contests before the NCAA Tournament, he averaged 15.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.1 steals in 34 minutes per game. McCain shot 47.6 percent from the field, 39.7 percent on his 3-point attempts, and 88.3 percent from the foul line.
The 6’3 guard is a strong shooter with playmaking upside. He could become a dynamic offensive weapon in the NBA if things break right. McCain shots well off movement and could fit nicely into Nick Nurse’s offense. The 20-year-old would likely be a bench option to begin his NBA career but has starter upside.
There are questions about his defense and ability to finish at the rim. The 6’3 guard will be hunted in pick-and-rolls. McCain competes hard but is undersized. It could impact him on both ends of the floor. Expect defense to be a point of emphasis in his development, but his upside on that end of the floor is limited.
The Philadelphia 76ers need young talent, and Jarred McCain has upside. The franchise had success developing Tyrese Maxey into a star. Can they help McCain reach his ceiling? The 6’3 guard will continue to rise on draft boards if he can help the Blue Devils make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament, so keep an eye out.
