Sixers Podcast: Win versus Clippers + optimistic Joel Embiid update
The Sixer Sense Podcast comes to you on the heels of an impressive team victory over the LA Clippers. What can the Sixers learn from this win? And what was different in this game than the first two match-ups of the team's West Coast trip?
Philadelphia lost the first two games of their road trip to the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers. The Suns' loss was tough as the Sixers' current leader, Tyrese Maxey, shot 3-13 from the field and 0-4 from three-point range for a whopping 6 points. The offense continued to stagnate and Philly was even cold from the free-throw line shooting 7-18. Not much went well in this one.
Following the Suns game, it did not seem like the Sixers could shoot worse. But wait, they did. The Sixers team's shooting percentage was 34% from the field and 22% from three. They could not throw a rock in the ocean this game and it led to a second consecutive loss. The positive in these two matchups was that the Sixers forced 20+ turnovers in both games. If Nick Nurse can get the offense going even a little bit for this team, that kind of defense can win close games.
The last game this week was against the LA Clippers and this was a team win from top to bottom. Tobias Harris finally woke up and had a productive game and the bench came to play in a big way. Cam Payne, Paul Reed, and KJ Martin combined for 41 points, 15 rebounds, 10 assists, 5 steals, and 5 blocks. If the Sixers played like they did in this game, do they have a chance to climb out of the Play-In Tournament with only 11 games remaining? Jonathan and Lucas give their thoughts.
