The Sixer Sense Podcast follows up a dominant performance by Joel Embiid against the league-best Minnesota Timberwolves. It is not just him though, alongside Tyrese Maxey, the duo is on a historic scoring pace. Can the Sixers best keep this up?
Within the past week, the Sixers routed the Detroit Pistons and Charlotte Hornets. They beat them by 32 and 53 points, respectively. Those numbers are written correctly, but it is worth noting that the level of competition in those games was weak. Following those wins, the team suffered a head-scratching loss to the Chicago Bulls.
Joel Embiid has been staggeringly dominant in the month of December. In the 8 games played, he is averaging 41+ points per game and has sat out the fourth quarter in 3 of those 8 games! It is almost hard to believe that he is still getting better to the point of being truly unguardable in this league. In 2 of those games, he scored 50 and 51 points.
The 51-point game came against the Minnesota Timberwolves, which entering the game had the best record in the NBA. The did not matter for Embiid who dominated both Rudy Gobert and Karl Anthony-Towns when they attempted to guard him. At this moment, do the guys believe Embiid is the frontrunner for the MVP award?
Against the Timberwolves, Tyrese Maxey also put up 35 points, which gave him and Embiid a combined 88 points! They are averaging over 60 points per game as a duo which would place them Top 5 in the history of the league if they can maintain this pace. That list is littered with Hall of Famers. Can you guess who came in at number 1?
The podcast closes out with the Around the NBA segment where Jonathan and Lucas discuss the hot topics around the league. This week includes Ja Morant, Miles Bridges, and more. Give it a listen below!
