The Sixer Sense Podcast returns following the team's first few games after the All-Star weekend. Hometown guard Kyle Lowry also debuted for the Sixers this week. What can we expect from his role for this team down the stretch? And are there better frontcourt options available for the Sixers to pursue in Joel Embiid's absence?
Philadelphia went 1-2 this week, suffering losses to the New York Knicks and Milwaukee Bucks. The Knicks have three former Villanova Wildcat players: Jalen Brunson, Donte DiVincenzo, and Josh Hart, who looked right at home on the Wells Fargo Floor where they beat the Sixers 110-96. The Sixers offense has been stagnant these last few games and the production from Embiid is notably missed.
Against the Bucks, the Sixers looked disinterested out on the floor. Milwaukee was coming off a tough road win over the Western Conference-leading Minnesota Timberwolves and was on the road in South Philly, yet they looked like the more energized team. Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard both flirted with triple-doubles and the Sixers were out of this game after the first quarter, to be honest.
The lone win for the Sixers this week was a hard-fought old-school game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs were on a heater recently, however, in Philly, they were without their superstar Donovan Mitchell. This is still a good team win for the Sixers in which five players scored in double-digits. All three of these teams are above the Sixers in the Eastern Conference standings and they needed to get better results. Following Sunday's loss to the Bucks, the Sixers are now just one game away from falling into the Play-In spot for the NBA Playoffs.
One of the biggest reasons the Sixers have struggled lately is the lack of competent backups at the center position. Are there any free agents still available that could help this roster bridge the time until Embiid returns? Jonathan and Lucas give some interesting names for possible signings.
