The Philadelphia 76ers are aware of the risk they're taking. Joel Embiid and Paul George have been forced to overcome a long list of devastatig injuries, and Philadelphia is now banking on them remaining healthy enough to help the team contend.

As the regular season nears and the new era of 76ers basketball commences, the risk is becoming easier to justify than ever before.

The 76ers have created one of the most promising on-paper trios in the NBA with Embiid, George, and Tyrese Maxey. Their skill sets all seem to complement one another to perfection, with each providing off-ball value at an All-Star level.

In a post on X by Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer, 76ers fans were given an early look at how lethal the two-man game between Embiid and George could be.

Kyle Neubeck of PHLY Sports provided footage, as well:

It's only practice, but pairing one of the smoothest shot creators in the NBA with the most dominant post-scorer on the planet appears to be a match made in heaven.

Fans have already seen how effective this type of situation can be with Embiid and Maxey. Injuries hampered their first season as true co-stars, but Embiid was scoring at a Wilt Chamberlain level and Maxey earned All-Star honors for the first time in his career.

The 76ers have now added a 6'8" wing to the mix whose three-point shooting and silky smooth scoring style are undoubtedly aided by his elite size for his position.

It's the perfect on-paper combination of strengths for the 76ers to utilize to their advantage in 2024-25. Embiid and George are proven commodities who have 16 All-Star Game appearances and 11 All-NBA nods between them.

More importantly, George is just as capable of creating his own offense as he is of working off of a teammate to find holes in the defense for open looks.—see: 45.4 percent shooting on catch-and-shoot threes in 2023-24.

With Maxey facilitating and shooting the lights out himself, the 76ers have the potential to decimate teams on offense. George and Maxey can find avenues that the average player may struggle to as far as entry passes are concerned, while Embiid is a capable passer once a double team arrives.

Both George and Maxey can then knock down open jump shots or attack the open space to create floaters, midrange jump shots, or finishes at the rim.

It's also worth discussing the fact that both Embiid and George seem to be moving comfortably around the court in the practice footage. That's a promising sign, especially after George hyperextended his knee during the preseason.

If health permits, the 76ers could turn in the best season of the Embiid era thus far with a trio of stars who can run two-man action that no defense has an answer for.
