This is huge.

The Philadelphia 76ers have one more task left unfulfilled this offseason — coming to terms with Quentin Grimes on a new deal. As tiresome as it may sound, the front office has yet to tick that box off, casting some uncertainty on the roster with training camp just right around the corner and the regular season slowly creeping in.

This standstill has been going on for months now, and there has been little progress toward a resolution. The last time we heard about this front, both camps remain engaged in a directionaless push-and-pull — the 76ers holding onto and staying firm on their initial position and Grimes waiting things out for a possible last-minute development that will arm him with some more leverage.

But really, both parties are merely delaying the inevitable. Everyone knows that at this point in time, the chances of the 76ers seeing Grimes slip out of their hands is close to zero. Barring a drastic fortuitous event, the 25-year-old will remain in Philly for at least the upcoming season.

Heck, it is apparent that Grimes himself shares that same sentiment. Just a few days ago, he posted an Instagram story of himself in a 76ers uniform, reinforcing the league-wide belief that he will be staying with the franchise.

Now, the only question remaining is how much would it take for the 76ers to keep Grimes happy? According to recent indications in the market, Grimes could stay for as low as the $8.7 million qualifying offer, but a short-term deal with a significant pay raise is not out of the equation. In fact, the front office seems to be laying the groundwork for what could be a richer contract than expected.

But anyhow, this is a great confirmation of things for the 76ers. Grimes, who most certainly made the most of his temporary billing as the nominal alpha for the squad when he came over before the trade deadline from the Mavericks, will be a vital piece of the puzzle for the team in their 2025-26 campaign.

Grimes is a shoo-in for a prominent role next season. He could either start games or come off the bench as the de facto sixth man for the squad, where his shot creation will be better optimized.

Thanks to his remarkable improvement on all aspects, Quentin Grimes will be one of the most important players for the Philadelphia 76ers, and him staying will only bolster their chances at a grand comeuppance next season.
