The Philadelphia 76ers faced a major predicament last summer when it came to Quentin Grimes, who navigated a tricky, sinuous course in his restricted free agency. That quandary is slated for a reprisal in the coming offseason, but this time, the to-be free agent could very well end up giving the team a huge favor in view of an expectedly more reasonable deal.

Grimes is going to have some suitors come his way, but in account of the mixed reviews he had garnered this season, his market might not be as robust as his camp expects. As such, there is a strong possibility that the 76ers will be able to lure him into signing a low-cost, short-term contract, which will be a huge win for the squad.

After turning in a career-best stretch last season when Dallas shipped him to Philly before the trade deadline, the 76ers had set lofty expectations on the 25-year-old. While reduced numbers were expected given his more defined role, his shooting was way too inconsistent in the regular season. His level of aggression has also been shaky at best.

The 76ers could re-sign Quentin Grimes to a team-friendly deal in free agency

In his fifth year as a pro, Quentin Grimes averaged 13.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per outing on 45 percent shooting from the field. However, he shot a career-worst 33.4 percent from downtown this season, which is quite a letdown given his billing as one of the go-to floor spacers on the team.

Be that as it may, Grimes' value goes beyond the raw figures for this team. He is the nominal sixth man on the squad, being Nick Nurse's go-to option when he needs a lift from the second unit. Despite his rocky shooting, he is arguably one of the best ball handlers on the team, coughing the ball up just 1.8 time on the average despite playing nearly 30 minutes per outing.

If Grimes' markets ends up being a stale one –– which has a strong possibility of happening –– the 76ers should be in line for a more pliant disposition from his otherwise persistent camp. He is absolutely not getting the kind of money he wanted last year, so he will have to settle for an inexpensive deal for the meantime.

More importantly, with the 76ers, keeping a prominent role will not be an issue for Grimes. As such, both parties will be happy campers if they come to terms on another deal this summer.
