Quiet change could affect the 76ers much more than people think

This might be more impactful than expected.

After making the bold decision to part ways with team president Daryl Morey after nearly six years with the franchise, the Philadelphia 76ers are now on the hunt for the next lead decision-maker for this team. Spearheading that search will be Bob Myers, the architect behind four NBA championships when he was still at the helm for the Golden State Warriors.

Myers certainly has an eye for talent, so him getting installed into the role of chief caller in the interim instills a lot of confidence that the 76ers will be able to find someone who can be an improvement over Morey. Having said that, it seems like Philly is actually getting a more prominent part from the former Warriors executive, which bodes well for them.

As reported by NBA insider Marc Stein, Myers has taken on a very major role for the 76ers at the moment. He is noted to be an active participant on a nearly daily basis, and hopes to find their next team president in the following week. Stein notes that this is a substantial commitment on his part for the 76ers among all the teams in the Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment portfolio that Myers is contracted to advise.

The 76ers seem to be getting more than what people expected from Bob Myers

The 76ers are desperate for a clean start up top, and while there remains concerns over the fact that the ownership group is still the same and the strange leftover that is Nick Nurse, who is still the man on the sidelines for Philly at the moment, having a new lead executive will be critical in ensuring that the team has the right brains behind the scenes who can be proactive in actually making the changes this team badly needs to get over the hump.

More often than not, Morey made so many shortsighted moves that ended up backfiring and/or putting the team in a less than ideal position for the near future. Under his belt, the 76ers gave up way too early on young contributors who became high-level players elsewhere. It was also under his watch where the team handed a couple of mammoth contracts that are already setting them back.

Now, with a well-connected and pedigree-laden individual like Myers leading the charge, the 76ers should have little issues engaging the services of a new team president who can lead the way for them toward the right track. After all, Myers is already a proven architect of title-winning teams, and Philly already has a good core to build around.
