Tyrese Maxey has certainly taken a huge leap this season, propelling the Philadelphia 76ers to a winning record after a long stretch of futility in the previous campaign. He has arguably been a top-10 player in the league in the current campaign, and with each passing game, he is firmly cementing himself as one of the best American players in the association.

As such, it is not a surprise that he is already gaining significant consideration to be the face of USA Basketball for the foreseeable future. Just recently, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports advocated for him to be part of Team USA for the 2028 Olympics, which is set to feature the new generation of stars from the country.

With the 2028 Games set to be hosted by Los Angeles, the Americans will undoubtedly be under heavy pressure to keep the gold medal in their hands. That is more so the case given the legacy which their older counterparts left them during the previous Olympics, wherein their heroics led the United States to a memorable top finish over France. Now, it woule be incumbent upon Maxey and his peers to keep the fire going.

As he has shown with the 76ers, few players in the league can match what Maxey brings to the table on a nightly basis. While the Olympics (which follows the more stringent FIBA rules) typically do not allow for as much volume scoring as he is used to, aspirants for the gold still need those players who can get them out of holes.

USA had Steph Curry, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant to dig them out of holes in Paris, but with those three expected to not be in the loop anymore, it would be up to Maxey, among others, to step into their shoes and affirm the Americans’ sheer dominance in basketball.

Teams like France, Serbia, and Canada feature multiple NBA stars, but the United States still has the most talented players. And given the way his career is progressing, it is definitely reasonable to count on Maxey being one of the players to steer the wheel for Team USA moving forward.

For now, he is laser-focused on helping the 76ers. But when the time comes for him to play for the flag, people can count on him to keep doing his thing and then some, even in the rowdier global stage.
