The Philadelphia 76ers have already made it clear that they are banking on Tyrese Maxey to carry the torch for the franchise in the future in addition to him being the team’s Robin in the present. However, they cannot be complacent and just expect the young All-Star to stick around no matter what.
Things were already looking good for the 76ers as they approach the 2025-26 season. Their offseason may not have been a perfect one, but the team, almost by default, saw their chances at jumping back into contention balloon the moment the previous campaign concluded. After all, they were expected to turn in a cleaner bill of health to kick things off, and they just added another high-end talent through the draft to reinforce their deep collection of talented and established players.
With the Eastern Conference looking like every bit of an open race next season with two of the biggest contenders already expected to face a steep decline due to the injury-related loss of their superstars, Philly was looking at a prime opportunity for a grand, if not historic, comeuppance next season after turning in a sour campaign that saw them finish with a puny 24-58 win-loss card, the fifth-worst record in the league.
But all of a sudden, the team is once again shrouded in a lot of uncertainty at this critical juncture, and if the situation remains unresolved, the 76ers could see a casualty in the form of Maxey.
Tyrese Maxey could force a trade from the 76ers if everything gets worse
ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins recently went on to discuss the outlook of the 76ers following Joel Embiid’s latest injury update, and suggested that the franchise could find itself in an unenviable position later down the road with Tyrese Maxey if they don’t get it together next season.
Perk noted that Maxey could very well request a trade if the team remains in the gutter. In fact, he is represented by Rich Paul of Klutch Sports, who is undeniably one of the most notable agents in the league who has tailored some of the biggest player movements in recent years.
Daryl Morey and the 76ers front office should already be looking for ways to bring the team closer to contention, even if that means making significant changes to the roster. Everything should be in play at this point, especially if Embiid’s condition does not improve and Paul George falls even harder than he did last season.
Tyrese Maxey himself went through a relatively down individual campaign last season, but he is way too talented to be shackled in a non-winning situation. The Philadelphia 76ers should consider themselves warned, even if the All-Star himself has not signaled any intent to leave the franchise despite its rather bleak outlook at present.
