The Philadelphia 76ers are away from the public eye for now thanks to the 2025 NBA Finals rightfully getting all the attention, but those who keep a watchful eye on the franchise probably have some stern observations about the lack of eventful stuff going on with the team.
That very silence, however, is a pretty resounding one. The 76ers have remained tight-lipped outside of the draft circuit, but it has definitely not helped ease the anxiety of fans who are still looking out for what could transpire with their superstar, Joel Embiid.
Since the 2023 Most Valuable Player underwent surgery a couple of months ago, the team’s brass has not given any tangential update, unless you count those vague statements as of late that only echo what people basically already know. Reading between the lines, this could only mean one thing — that what fans feared the most could just be accurate.
76ers’ eerie silence on Joel Embiid confirms fans’ greatest fear
From the very start, some experts and actual doctors have already cautioned about the 76ers’ approach with Embiid, saying that his recent procedure will only likely to pay off for the short-term and will not really move the needle for him in the long-run.
Yet even with Embiid undergoing that procedure, a debridement to be exact, the 76ers have remained mum on the situation — no contact workouts, practice, or anything of the sorts.
If a procedure believed to manifest its benefits in the short-term has not been enough to give the front office some semblance of confidence to air what is actually happening, then what the fans are fearing the most might actually be true.
The 76ers owe it to everyone to be more transparent than ever when it comes to Embiid who, barring any trade, will be entering training camp as the biggest question mark in the association. This is definitely not the best time for them to be inhibiting any information about his progress from injury.
To make things worse, if the front office is eyeing to move him anyway, then their current disposition also does them little to oil that engine up. No one knows what is happening to him, and that only creates a double bind that would be tricky to get out of if the push comes to shove.
Philadelphia 76ers fans are not blind adherents. This fanbase certainly deserves to know more about the status of the best player of the team they are rooting for, and by doing the exact opposite, the franchise is only proving that they have not taken the best road with the superstar.
