The Philadelphia 76ers are giving Tacko Fall a shot.
According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the team is signing Tacko Fall to a two-way contract. The 30-year-old will become one of the Sixers' very few true big men on the team, which signals that his opportunity with the main roster could come much earlier than expected for a two-way player.
While it's rare for two-way players to have an early impact across the NBA, the Sixers have seen their fair share of players have roles with the main roster--Dominick Barlow and Jabari Walker being two great examples.
Before the Sixers reached training camp, the team made it clear that they were going to leave their third two-way slot open. A camp battle between several Exhibit 10 players would ensue. Fall was the only center in the mix, which became an immediate advantage for him, since the 76ers went down two centers before they reached the second half of their preseason opener.
Going into training camp, the 76ers lost Adem Bona to a foot injury. He was expected to be out for at least two weeks of action. While Bona has been back on the practice court, getting in full sessions, he missed the entire preseason due to his setback.
Ariel Hukporti was tabbed as a possible primary backup to Joel Embiid, depending on how his training camp and preseason would pan out. Just a few minutes into the preseason opener against the New York Knicks, Hukporti went down with a non-contact injury. He was later diagnosed with a torn Achilles. Now, Hukporti will miss the entire 2026-2027 NBA season for the 76ers.
What does Tacko Fall bring to the table?
The 76ers didn't get a true glimpse of what Fall brings to the table since he was in on the bad trend of going down with a setback during the preseason. Just two days into training camp, Fall suffered a hip injury, which was expected to keep him off the court for multiple weeks.
As expected, Fall ended up missing the entire preseason, including the Blue x White scrimmage, which was open to the public. Not a single Sixers fan has seen Fall in action with the team just yet. Everything we know is based on what he showed in the past. Therefore, it's understandable to question the Sixers' decision to make him the third active center on the roster.
In 2019, Fall joined the Boston Celtics for what turned out to be a two-season run. In 2020-2021, he played in 19 games as a sophomore, averaging 7.2 minutes per game. Fall produced 2.5 points per game, along with 2.7 rebounds per game.
After the Celtics allowed Fall to walk, he joined the Cleveland Cavaliers for the 2021-2022 season. He appeared in 11 games for the Cavs, averaging 5.4 minutes of action. During that time, Fall posted 1.1 PPG and 2.1 RPG. Since leaving the Cavs, Fall has had stints in the NBA G League, Summer League, and outside of the NBA.
