In recent years, the Philadelphia 76ers haven’t exactly nailed many of their decisions. With so much talent in the upcoming NBA draft, Daryl Morey can’t afford to fumble the franchise’s future again. He needs to land another star who can amplify the team's fortunes. Fansided’s latest Mock Draft suggests this choice might not be his to make, as the Oklahoma City Thunder are projected to pick a forward who fits exactly what the 76ers need -- Yaxel Lendeborg.

If past seasons are any indication, the 76ers will keep building their roster around Joel Embiid, hoping he can finally shake off the injuries that have hampered his career. Given the size of his contract, they don’t have much choice. So far, Morey has put together an impressive backcourt duo in Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe, a pairing with the potential to carry this team well into the future. However, a successful team must boast more than a few quality options.

Philadelphia's biggest problem has been that the roster depth has lacked the quality to share the scoring load and establish a versatile offensive plan. Adding an efficient, two-way forward in the draft process would undoubtedly strengthen the Sixers' championship ambitions. Of course, few things pan out in the way that the franchise hopes.

Yaxel Lendeborg is the perfect fit for the 76ers

After acquiring the Houston Rockets' 2026 first-round pick from the Thunder in the controversial Jared McCain trade, Philadelphia will likely have to bide its time while waiting to make its selection. Unfortunately, OKC will have the benefit of utilising their projected 15th overall pick before the Sixers, leaving them the perfect opportunity to steal Yaxel Lendeborg.

Lendeborg and Philadelphia would be a match made in heaven. For the 76ers to build upon the roster they have already constructed, they must find an effective two-way forward. In the words of Fansided's Draft Expert, Christopher Kline, "Lendeborg has been essential to the most suffocating defense in college hoops, and he does so much to connect dots offensively."

This analysis of Lendeborg is well-backed by statistics. The 23-year-old has averaged 14.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 2.4 stocks per game, while shooting 51.5% from the floor. Additionally, Lendeborg has already proven his ability to step up when the spotlight shines brightest for Michigan in the NCAA Tournament. He recorded 25 points and six rebounds in the Wolverines' dominant 95-72 victory over Saint Louis during their second-round matchup.

Philadelphia requires a forward who can fit into a system that does not require them to be the vocal point of its offense but allows the stars around him to thrive -- Lendeborg is more than capable of this. The well-rounded forward's basketball intelligence allows him to participate in intricate play calls, including dribble hand-offs, pick-and-rolls, or simply camping out in the corner waiting for the opportunity to sink a spot-up three.

If Fansided's latest Mock Draft is correct, then the Philadelphia 76ers could be set to miss out on the perfect roster addition. There may be an overwhelming abundance of talent in this draft process, but none fit the squad constuction more perfectly than Yaxel Lendeborg.
