The 76ers definitely cannot afford to suffer any more injuries. After having mounted a hot start with eight wins in their first nine games, they have all the momentum in the world to maintain their lofty footing in the standings right now. To that effect, they are definitely lucky to have avoided a major curveball when it comes to Tyrese Maxey, whose recent finger injury does not seem to be worsening anytime soon.

After their most recent win over Detroit, the All-Star guard reassured the media that his injured finger is fine. He had a collision late in their game against the Pistons, which caused him to grab his hand in pain. However, he does not seem to be too concerned about it, although the 76ers have every reason to keep a close eye on it moving forward, given his history.

The 76ers have to closely monitor Tyrese Maxey and his injured finger

Finger injuries can be notoriously pesky, and of all people, Maxey is one to know this best. After all, he injured his finger at the end of each of the last two seasons. During the previous campaign, he missed nearly two weeks due to it, and it certainly lingered come playoff time.

Maxey is the leading scorer on the 76ers right now, averaging 28 points a night. That figure is more than six points above Jaylen Brown's 21.8 points per outing, which is second on the roster. With Philly having the 20th-ranked offense as of writing, the group simply cannot afford to miss their leading scorer due to injury.

For now, it does not appear that the All-NBA guard will be set to miss games, as he is not even on the injury report. However, the 76ers must plan for the contingency that Maxey aggravates his finger and eventually misses games. It is still way too early in the season anyway, and it is not prudent to not have a way to put a governor on his potentially lingering issue.

Injuries are the biggest concern around the 76ers even before the season began. They have some injury-prone players on the roster, and while Tyrese Maxey does not necessarily fit that description, he has a track record of an ailment that can be exacting at the least opportune times. Hopefully, the team is ready to deal with it and actually has a solid plan on how to go about it while the season is still young.
