This week, NBA legend Walt Frazier took a surprising jab at the Philadelphia 76ers. During a preseason game broadcast, Frazier responded to Tyrese Maxey saying last season was the first time he had been on a losing team. "He'd better get used to it," Frazier said. "It doesn't look good." Maxey responded with a post on X saying simply, "bet."
Some may see this as a surprising comment from Frazier. Out of context, it seems like a pretty unprovoked attack against another player and/or franchise. But if you think about it, it's probably just some good banter between a New York Knicks Legend and one of the current franchise stars in Philadelphia.
There's probably nothing mean-spirited here. Some are going to want to take offense to Frazier's comments, but I think it's all in good fun and in the spirit of competitive nature. And honestly, Maxey's response was appropriate. Essentially what he's saying is, 'you really think my team is going to continue on in a pattern of losing? Well, we'll just see about that.'

Maxey responded to Frazier's comments
I think Sixers fans are probably taking a pretty good amount of pride in Tyrese's reply here. Right now, it seems to be the popular and trendy thing among other NBA fans to want to hate on the 76ers and trash them, call them overrated, and the like. Maxey and the rest of this roster certainly hear this noise going around the association, and you can believe they're looking to silence the haters.
It seems that no one really wants to take into context the fact that Philadelphia was extremely banged up and injured last season. The comments of the Sixers being overrated and being set up to struggle again in the upcoming season all seem to ignore this simple bit of context. And when it comes to those allied with Philadelphia's rivals like Frazier, they're of course going to take every opportunity to take their jabs at this team.
Well, Tyrese Maxey for one is not going to let this slander of he and his teammates stand. Sixers fans have to be beating their chests right alongside their star player hearing him stick up for the team like this. Who said rivalries in the NBA are dead? It's interactions like this one that only serve to further grow the hype for the season, anticipation for certain matchups, and friendly but intense feelings of animosity among storied rivals like the Knicks and 76ers.
