If the Philadelphia 76ers are going to maximize their championship potential, they cannot rely solely on their established superstars to carry them to victory. Versatile role players will be just as integral to their success. The NBA draft presents a prime opportunity to add an affordable prospect who fits that mould, and Texas Longhorns forward Dailyn Swain checks every box.
Dailyn Swain is a steal at 22nd overall in the NBA draft
The 2026 draft is bursting at the seams with talent in all positions -- most notably the guard spots. However, with Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe forming what could be the franchise's backcourt of the future, the Sixers should prioritize strengthening their frontcourt depth.
Primarily playing out of the small forward position, Dailyn Swain provides an answer to several dilemmas the front office will have this offseason. Mike Gansey must still determine Kelly Oubre Jr.'s future. If that decision results in the 30-year-old's departure, Philadelphia will need to find an athletic two-way player capable of easing some of the physical burden placed on Joel Embiid.
Standing at 6-foot-7, Swain offers length and defensive versatility that is not often found with a late first-round selection. With the guidance of Paul George, the Longhorns forward would see his development accelerated on both sides of the ball, while also providing the Sixers with an immediate impact from a secondary role.
Swain's offensive evolution could benefit Tyrese Maxey
Over the course of the season, Dailyn Swain averaged 17.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game, while shooting 54.2% from the rim as he continually attacked the rim with aggressive intent. However, as his college career came to a close, Swain proved he is far more than a defensive stalwart and an above-average points scorer -- he also possesses a keen eye for playmaking.
As the Texas Longhorns fought their way to the Sweet 16 during the NCAA Tournament, the 20-year-old cut a more mature figure on the ball, much to the benefit of his teammates. Swain recorded 5.3 assists per game throughout this period and showed glimpses of the ball-handling talent that he commands.
Of course, this is still an area of his game that he must improve when leaping into the relentless world of the NBA, but it would provide the Philadelphia 76ers with an experimental option in the backcourt.
After trading Jared McCain to the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Sixers were left with few reliable options to ease Tyrese Maxey's workload. That lack of guard depth forced Maxey into heavy minutes, and the effects were evident as the Sixers were ruthlessly swept by the New York Knicks in the Second Round of the playoffs.
With the 22nd overall pick of the 2026 NBA draft, the Philadelphia 76ers could potentially have the option to address more than one roster issue. Not only would Dailyn Swain's versatility be a huge boost to the squad, but as a cheaper option, the front office would have more financial flexibility to acquire more experienced role players.
