He might not win Rookie of the Year this season, but VJ Edgecombe has been incredible for the Philadelphia 76ers and has made one of the biggest impacts on his team of all first-year players in the NBA. The 20-year-old has been a big part of Philadelphia's success this season and is a reason it has a chance to return to the playoffs after last year's disastrous campaign.

Edgecombe has a very bright future with the 76ers. He can already contribute in every area of the game, and he still has a ton of untapped potential. But what may be even more exciting is his long-term outlook next to Tyrese Maxey, who earned his second career All-Star nod this season at 25 years old.

Both of them are already incredible now, but the sky is still the limit for what they can do. And according to Edgecombe himself, they're looking to not only take over the game -- they're looking to be a part of history.

VJ Edgecombe has high hopes for his future with Tyrese Maxey

In a recent interview with Gina Mizell of The Inquirer, Edgecombe spoke about what he hopes to achieve alongside Maxey in Philadelphia.

“Just to be his running mate,” Edgecombe said. “As the years go on, I want us to go down in history.”

It's obviously way, way too early to put them in historic discussions, but there's a lot to like about what Edgecombe and Maxey can bring to the 76ers for the long run. They are both young, athletic, and talented guards, but they also complement each other's games well.

Maxey is quickly proving that he can be a true No. 1 option for the 76ers, and Edgecombe does a fantastic job either filling in the margins (particularly on the defensive side of the ball) or taking over as the lead guy when needed.

On paper, there is a lot to like about Philadelphia's dynamic. In addition to Maxey and Edgecombe, who can be impactful players 10 years from now, the team still has Joel Embiid and Paul George, who can overlap and help on both sides of the ball when needed. Granted, a lot of this dynamic depends on the team's health, but there is a lot of potential.

The 76ers might not be legitimate title contenders right now, but if Maxey and Edgecombe can continue to develop their game on their current trajectory, then there is no telling what the future has in store.
