After Picking up more draft picks, the 2017 NBA Draft Just Became More Interesting for the Philadelphia 76ers

The Philadelphia 76ers have just traded seldom used point guard Kendall Marshall to the Utah Jazz for Tibor Pleiss, cash, and two second round draft picks.

Due to shrewd trading, the team now has four 2017 NBA draft picks to select.  And it just so happens that 2017 is a very good year for the NBA draft.  But for now, all we have are picks. More so, the strange part is that it’s a complicated scenario for where those picks will happen.

So let’s not struggle about it.  After a trade, we can always break it down for you here.

First of all, the Philadelphia 76ers will have their own first round pick.  Where will that be?  If the team improves dramatically, it could be at the bottom of the lottery, but the lottery nonetheless. While we can be optimistic, for now let’s expect the team to be in the top five.

Beyond their own pick,  the Philadelphia 76ers will have another opportunity to claim the Los Angeles Lakers first round draft pick – top 3 protected.

Unfortunately, that will pick is not guaranteed to convey.  But the Lakers have dodged the bullet for two years.  Eventually, it will convey to the 76ers. However, if it happens at four or five in the 2017 NBA draft, we will all be ecstatic.

Finally, even if the Lakers pick does not change hands, the Philadelphia 76ers will have the right to swap their first round pick with that of the Sacramento Kings.  This could be an incredibly powerful value next season, as the Sacramento Kings are once more in the hands of a new head coach and looking to restock their free agents.  In fact, all things considered, the 76ers could finish the season with a better record than the Kings next year.

The Philadelphia 76ers second round pick is the final installment payment of renting point guard Ish Smith for a partial year from the New Orleans Pelicans.

However, the team did manage to wheel and deal two second round picks from the Utah Jazz.  The two picks will come from the second round picks of the: Utah Jazz, Detroit Pistons, New York Knicks, and Golden State Warriors. But what is the criteria?  Well, the 76ers will get the best and worst picks from that group.

AND Rights to swap 76ers first round pick with that of the Sacramenton Kings
AND Los Angeles Lakers first round pick (1-3 Protected)

BUT Philadelphia 76ers second round pick to New Orleans.
