The Verdict
Overall, this is a tough choice for me, so I think the Sixers are going to have a real tough time deciding who will be the starter on opening night. I’m predicting that they will try different players out with the role for a few games, and see what truly works best before they pick a longtime starter.
Once they do name a longtime starter, though, I believe it will be Tony Wroten. His positive attributes greatly outweigh the negatives. He offers a more balanced style of play than most of the other players. Ish hasn’t even re-signed, Canaan isn’t aware of his teammates, and Wilbekin has yet to play a game in the NBA.
That’s not to say these players are bad, they will be great off of the bench, but I just feel Wroten fits the starting role much better for now.
While Wroten does have his flaws that he must work on, he’s got experience scoring and assisting at a high level. There’s no reason that he can’t improve that for yet another season, and offer the Sixers a great positive role in the starting lineup.
