1. Wilt Chamberlain Double Triple Double
Wilt Chamberlain owns what many consider to THE most unbreakable record in professional sports: 100 points in a single NBA game. Many don’t realize, however, that he probably has the first AND second most unbreakable records. The second one? The NBA’s only ever triple double double (>20 in 3 statistical categories).
The Dipper is widely recognized for his dominant scoring and rebounding, but coming into the 1967-68 season, he openly stated that he wanted to lead the league in assists. This was no doubt a response to his critics that said his legendary scoring was born out of a selfish streak, but also likely a challenge to himself. Ultimately he led the league in total assists that year but the Big O, Oscar Robertson, took the per game title.
On the way to that epic assists total, Wilt had a couple games where he was dropping dimes all over the floor. And none was better than a home game against the visiting pistons in which Wilt went for 22 points, 25 rebounds, and 21 assists, the NBA’s only ever double triple double. Said legendary Sixers stat man Harvey Pollack about the game, “Everyone makes a big fuss out of a triple double. How about a triple double double! Wilt’s line from that game – 22 points, 25 rebounds and 21 assists. The 21 assists was a Sixers single-game assist mark for many years. Maurice Cheeks eventually tied it. Wilt was the only player to play all 48 minutes in that game.”

Kobe Bryant going off for 81 points a few years ago created the tiniest possibility that someone could MAYBE creep on 100 points in a game. But another triple double double?? Ain’t happening, not ever again. A legendary line that only the legendary Chamberlain could produce.
