Philadelphia 76ers NBA Rountable: NBA Draft Day Scenarios Caused by NBA Lottery

"From now until the lottery on May 16th,  The Sixer Sense will be featuring a round table discussion of some of the Sixer Sense contributors. Each day the lottery will be simulated via Tankathon and our contributors will talk through what options the Philadelphia 76ers would have, what trade possibilities as well as a recommendation for who the 76ers should draft."

On May 2nd the initial roll from Tankathon.com presented the following draft order:

To see yesterdays May 1st discussion

May Second Roll

1. Charlotte
2. Boston (via Brooklyn)
3. Dallas
4. Phoenix
5. Philadelphia (Via Lakers)
6. Philadelphia
7. Orlando
8. Minnesota
9. New York
10. Sacramento
11. Sacramento (via New Orleans)
12. Detroit
13. Denver
14. Miami

This scenario is interesting in that Charlotte jumps to #1. The Lakers pick does convey and Sixers end up with the fifth and 6th picks in the NBA Draft. The panel of Sixers Sense contributors Bret Stuter,  Jason Blevins, Anthony Depaul, and Lucas Johnson weighed in. So here is what our analysts had to say:

On who may be taken ahead of the Philadelphia 76ers

J Blevins: Charlotte would likely not think twice and take Fultz here. , Boston would probably use this position to try to make a big trade with someone for the star they need. Chicago could be a partner. Either way I would see Lonzo Ball going #2. Dallas could also try moving up in this position or even back but I could see them taking someone like Dennis Smith Jr. as they are fairly well set at the 2/3 positions. Phoenix likely takes Tatum or Jackson at number four.

On who the Sixers may target at 5 and 6

Lucas Johnson:

“I’d say Monk and Smith with both picks. I still stand by what I said yesterday, though if one of them are off the board at this point would give the nod to Isaac.

Jason Blevins:

“For me this is Monk and Isaac, I’m betting on the high floor of Isaac and the high ceiling of Monk.”

Anthony Depaul

“Funny, Derek Bodner’s Patreon had a similar scenario with the Knicks and Orlando jumping  in the top 3. He said he’d go with Isaac and Monk or Nkilitina”

On trade possibilities

Anthony Depaul

“I think a wrinkle discussion point Is what single pick in the draft would you want instead of these two picks. For me any point after 3, I would be ok with having these two picks instead. In the number 2 pick slot, the Sixers are guaranteed Fultz or Jackson. After those two, I’d rather have the two assets to move forward with.”

Jason Blevins

“What would trade options look like? Does 5&6 get you Jimmy Butler? Does he fit with Simmons and Embiid?

Derek Bodner had a great pod breakdown yesterday on the PG13 situation and it’s pretty fascinating.”

Anthony Depaul

“Yes, I listened to that this morning, the PG situation is even less something I would want the Sixers to jump into with the DPE involved, unless they are helping facilitate the trade and not end up with George”

I don’t think I even go after Butler with those picks. If the team thinks Monk/Nkilitina is a better option for future than JA and Sauce, then I work on a trade for a lesser player to maintain cap flexibility and keep the core of the team young. An example of this I’ve been kicking around is a Hawks Trade for Bazemore. They may want to shed salary and start over.

I know BC will try to overpay for free agents and why not start that clock by getting a free agent who signed a big contract last year by trading a player who isn’t part of the future of the team and using up the cap space.”

Bret Stuter

Think Hawks are ready to blow it up?

Anthony Depaul

“I think if Milsap opts out and signs elsewhere they could be ready. And there is already talk of dealing Dwight Howard. I think they could press a reset and build around Schroeder, Bembry and T. Prince

Consensus

Most of our analysts think that having picks 5 and 6, while not ideal, give the Philadelphia 76ers the chance to take both a high upside guard like Malik Monk and a front court player like Jonathan Isaac but there are scenarios where this opens the door to trades for veterans.
