Philadelphia 76ers NBA Rountable: NBA Draft Day Scenarios Caused by NBA Lottery

All month,  The Sixer Sense has featured a round table discussion between some of The Sixer Sense‘s contributors. Each day the lottery will be simulated via Tankathon and our contributors will talk through what options the Philadelphia 76ers would have and the trade possibilities, as well as a recommendation for who the 76ers should draft.

Today the final roll  from Tankathon.com presented the following draft order:

Draft PositionTeam
1 New York
2 Philadelphia
3Phoenix
4Boston (Via Brooklyn)
5Philadelphia (via Lakers)
6Orlando

12Detroit
13Denver
14Miami

Knicks win, Sixers get 2 and 5 and Phoenix is number 3. Knicks need a PG in the worst way, right? Gotta believe they go Fultz here, even thought Ball has the higher profile.

Jason Dandy

New York without takes Markelle Fultz. I think the Sixers should not hesitate to take Lonzo Ball at 2.

Bret Stuter

I bet trade on that 5….

Jason Dandy

Phoenix then takes Josh Jackson, Boston then takes Jayson Tatum, and then I think the Sixers should take Malik Monk

Jason Blevins

Phoenix is well positioned in this years lottery. They need a SF and the odds of them drafting Tatum or Jackson seem almost an inevitability. I’d go Ball/Isaac or Jackson/Monk I wouldn’t go Ball/Monk

Jason Dandy

I think Ball and Monk would work very well around each other, plus both PG and SG are our weakest positions

Christopher Kline

I’ll jump in and say that at least checks out some defensively. Ball would be better off against twos, Monk would be better off against ones.

Lucas Johnson

Tatum or Jackson with the number two it depends on who you are personally higher on me personally Tatum, number 5 you monk or Smith. If you go Tatum with the first pick then go Monk, if you go Jackson then go Smith.

Jason Dandy

Honestly, I  dont think Tatum fits at all with the Sixers. He’s best served as a power forward, struggles shooting, and is mostly an isolation scorer

Jason Blevins

I believe that Simmons really will be the Point Guard. So Ball or Monk will play but both wouldn’t start for the foreseeable future. To me picking them both is basically just bust protection but they are stylistically so different I don’t like them as a 1-2 punch. I agree on Tatum, doesn’t project as a fit in my opinion. I don’t see how Tatum compliments Simmons or Embiid or Covington.

Jason Dandy

I just dont like using labels on positions. Sure, Simmons could be our “point guard” but he will more than likely play the role Lebron plays on the Cavs, and Lebron still has Kyrie at “point guard”

Jason Blevins

Brett Brown has specifically clarified that though

Liberty Ballers has the story.

"Brett Brown on Ben Simmons: When I say “point guard,” I mean “point guard”Brett Brown hops on The Vertical Podcast with Woj to expound on his plans with Ben Simmons, his relationship with Bryan Colangelo, and more."

Jason Dandy

I’m all for Simmons running the point on offense, but just being realistic he’s not going to be defending guards in the NBA.

Series Wrap Up

Thanks to all of the contributors to this month’s discussions. We have had a number of different scenarios to ponder, and in 4 of the 5 rolls, the Lakers pick did convey. In one of the scenarios, the Kings pick swap comes into play and in one scenario the Philadelphia 76ers have just the 5th pick.
