Philadelphia Pick 39 Options

At the 39 pick, the Philadelphia 76ers must now pick from the pile of prospects whom the NBA have deemed rather riskier. But, that could also mean far more upside as well. At this point, the team turns one eye to the future. As such, the Two-Way contracts play a role in this selection.  Where will the Philadelphia 76ers perceive the greatest need in that 2018-2019 roster? Wherever that is, this is the pick to address that roster shortcoming.

More from Draft

With the 39th pick of the 2017 NBA Draft, the Philadelphia 76ers select….

Xavier point guard/shooting guard Edmond Sumner has been named as the biggest faller in the 2017 NBA Draft at point guard by Nelson. But in terms of higher risk and higher rewards? He is a bulls-eye.  Sumner is a very versatile backcourt player who projects as an incredible fit in the 76ers quest for back court compliments to Ben Simmons.  The trouble? Sumner has been plagued with injuries.

While that is plenty of reason to shy away in round one, it’s not enough to force pause selecting him in round two. In fact, it may make him the ideal prospect if he remains on the board at 39.  At 6-foot-6 and 176 pounds, he is lithe enough to have plenty of presence at either guard position.  His 15 points, 4.3 rebounds, 5.0 assists, .8 blocks, and 1.3 steals per game are enough to make you sit up and take notice.  He can play all day in the NBA. But can he stay healthy? It’s worth a second round pick to find out.
