The Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers last night in a hotly contested game.  The game was wildly entertaining, matched only by the jokes the internet are responsible for.

The Philadelphia 76ers are currently sitting sixth in an airtight Eastern Conference playoff race.  For reference, the gap between being the third seed and the seventh seed is a total of three games.

If you’re here, reading this, you’re probably a Sixer fan.  Yet, if for whatever reason this isn’t the team you root for, I’m here to highlight the easiest reason to root for Philadelphia.

This team is backed by the unmitigated strength of The Internet.  When the Philadelphia 76ers are playing, it’s good for social media.  They have one of the most quotable players in the league in Joel Embiid, fire uniforms, team chemistry, and an objectively good on-court product.

Let’s dive into the round-up from last night’s win over LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers so you can see what I mean.  We’ll start with the pregame rumblings about LeBron to the Sixers.

A less than convincing denial?  You be the judge.

We also got a look behind the man of mystery, with Chris Webber giving us the hard-hitting analysis of what makes Ben Simmons so effective.

Joel Embiid continues to exceed expectations of what he’s capable of on a basketball court.

More impressively, Embiid is a walking meme waiting to happen at any moment.

Embiid quickly shifted back to Chief Recruiter after the game, showing his versatility.

LeBron was very complimentary of The Process and it’s key players, which again comes off as a lukewarm denial that he would enjoy playing with them.

I’m sure I missed some gems, so feel free to angrily let me know. The point stands though, this team is a lot of fun to watch, and I think there’s credence to the suggestion that social media helps in that regard.

The NBA has helped itself gain popularity recently in part due to their stance on policing highlights on the internet.  Where other leagues tend to crack down on unofficial content, the NBA has taken a hands-off approach.

This allows fans the freedom to interact with the product in a unique and instant fashion, no matter whether they have the ability to watch the game in question.  NBA Twitter can be an event in and of itself on the right nights, and their team of choice is often our Philadelphia 76ers.
