Rookie of the Year

Last year’s winner was Ben Simmons.

Christopher Kline — Luka Doncic, Dallas Mavericks

I’ve professed my adoration for Doncic’s game on more than one occasion. He’s the best prospect in the 2018 class and will play meaningful starting minutes for a Dallas team that might make the playoffs.

Jack Duffy — Luka Doncic, Dallas Mavericks

Dirk Nowitzki has stated publicly that Luka Doncic has been the best player in Mavericks’ scrimmages during training camp. The 19-year-old European star is going to have a breakout season in 2018.

His unique east to west style of play, playmaking, and shot-making ability will transfer to the NBA. With the help of Dennis Smith Jr., Doncic will be the best player on a young, talented,Mavs team and will outshine every other rookie in the league due to him playing for Real Madrid in the Euroleague with plenty of professional experience.

Alex Rosenfeld — Luka Doncic, Dallas Mavericks

He should have been the No. 1 pick and he’ll prove that. Playing time, an abundance of opportunities to handle the ball, and superior talent will allow him to win this award in a landslide.

AJ Iezzi — Luka Doncic, Dallas Mavericks

One day we’ll all wonder how Doncic fell to No. 3 in the draft. He is in a great situation to succeed. His playmaking alone makes the Mavs a better team. He has a lot of shooters around him and one of the best lob targets ever in DeAndre Jordan.

Doncic should be on the verge of double digit assists and points every night. The Mavericks could be one of the most interesting offensive units in the league, due largely in part to Luka Doncic.

Harrison Grimm — Luka Doncic, Dallas Mavericks

Many people (including myself) have made the argument that Luka Doncic should’ve gone No. 1 overall in the 2018 NBA Draft. Doncic is the most popular EuroLeague player entering the league, ever. There will be so many eyes all around the world to see how the young prospect will thrive in Dallas. From what most people have seen, Luka is a very talented player who will make an impact this season.

Luka Doncic is in a very good situation for his young career. He will be a main focal point for a team that’s trying to win now. This is a huge point, as most rookies who were taken high are in rebuilding situations. While Dallas is filled with talent, Doncic will be the third option (at least) and should put up solid averages for his rookie season. After all, Rookie of the Year is typically a stats-based award.

Joe DiProsperos — Luka Doncic, Dallas Mavericks

Doncic is through and through the best all-around talent in this year’s rookie class. He’s the most refined and overall NBA-ready, and will get more than enough opportunities to get his numbers. Plus, him teaming up with Dennis Smith Jr. along with DeAndre Jordan makes Dallas a possible contender for one of the lower seeds in a tough Western Conference.

Stuart London — Luka Doncic, Dallas Mavericks

Yeah, I know I will get a lot of flack for not picking Shake Milton but Doncic just noses him out. Would not shock me if DeAndre Ayton or Trae Young won it but Doncic just has such a mature, well-rounded game for his age. If the voters liked Ben Simmons they should also go ga-ga for Doncic.

Lucas Johnson — Deandre Ayton, Phoenix Suns

While the Luka Doncic may be the popular vote, I will put my vote for the big man who went first overall in the draft. Ayton has had a great preseason and there’s little doubt he shouldn’t be able to produce similar production during the regular season.
