Philadelphia 76ers podcast: Jimmy Butler, 2019 NBA Draft prospects and more
By Jack Duffy
The Philadelphia 76ers will reportedly offer Jimmy Butler the full five-year, $190 million max contract this summer. Does Tobias Harris deserve the same money? The crew discusses these topics and more in the latest TSS Podcast.
In the latest episode of The Sixer Sense Podcast, Jack Duffy, Matt Burnham, AJ Iezzi and Joe DiProsperos get into various topics and discussions on the latest things around the NBA, including the Finals, Tobias Harris and Jimmy Butler‘s impending free agency, along with who the Philadelphia 76ers should select with the 24th, 33rd, and 34th picks in the NBA Draft this month.
Game 2 of the NBA Finals was quite entertaining, from the Warriors’ 18-0 run between the second and third quarters, to Andre Iguodala‘s game-clinching three-pointer, to DeMarcus Cousins putting together a solid game, and the sleuth of injuries the Golden State Warriors have dealt with.
The guys got into how crucial it was for the Warriors that Boogie Cousins showed up to play Sunday night, providing the reigning NBA Champions with a secondary playmaker alongside Steph Curry. They also explained what fueled the Warriors’ 18-0 run, how Draymond Green being aggressive offensively was a huge key in Game 2, along with Quinn Cook‘s second-half scoring efforts to bolster the Warriors.

After the NBA Finals analysis, the subject changed back to more Sixers-centered subjects, starting with how the Sixers will reportedly offer Jimmy Butler the full five-year, $190 million max contract this summer. They talked about the odds of Jimmy returning and why he is worth every bit of that money, especially after his performances in this year’s playoffs. Tobias Harris is eligible for that same contract. Is he worth the money or is the chance at a championship worth the risk of overpaying?
Jack AJ, Joe and Matt all gave their top five list of prospects the Sixers should draft at 24. Similar names were repeated such as Cam Johnson, Matisse Thybulle, Tyler Herro (unlikely available at 24), Grant Williams, Talen Horton-Tucker and Dylan Windler. They discussed why each player would be a great fit and how their draft stock sits currently and how it could look on draft night.
They did the same thing with the 33rd and 34th picks and there were also some similar names repeated amongst them, including Carsen Edwards, how Talen Horton-Tucker and Grant Williams could reportedly fall to the early second round, along with big men Admiral Schofield, Bruno Fernando and Daniel Gafford. They compared their picks to ESPN’s latest NBA Mock Draft which had the Sixers taking Matisse Thybulle at 24, Talen Horton-Tucker at 33, Carsen Edwards at 34, and Jontay Porter at 42.
The guys closed the podcast giving their thoughts on the 76ers giving Tobias Harris’ brothers, Tyler and Terry Harris, free agent and pre-draft workouts in the last few days and the Sixers motives behind that. Was it just to please Tobias more in hopes of resigning him or was there actually basketball motives behind it? Terry Harris had workouts with the Clippers, Nets, Mavericks, Suns, and a few other teams.
