Philadelphia 76ers: 5 big name free agents to avoid
Carmelo Anthony
This one is a little more than obvious, but Carmelo Anthony shouldn’t be on the Philadelphia 76ers free agent radar. About a year ago, I wrote about how the Sixers shouldn’t have interest in Anthony. His very short stint with the Houston Rockets this past season only re-enforces that sentiment. In 10 games with the Rockets, Anthony averaged 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds, while only converting 32.8 percent from behind the arc.
There’s no deny that Anthony can still create his own shot, something the 76ers need off the bench. However, it seems as if he still hasn’t been able to fully accept that he’s in the decline of his career and hasn’t adjusted his game accordingly. If he did, then he would be an ideal fit on Philly’s bench and be the primary backup at the power forward spot. He’d make the Sixers a favorite to win a title, if only he would be willing to become a role player.
He’s a 10 time All-Star, regular season scoring champion and has been named to six All-NBA teams. Along with career averages of 24.0 point and 6.5 rebounds will get him to Hall of Fame, but his unwillingness to adjust and accept the fact that he’s not the player he once was should keep him off the Sixers or any other team’s radar.
