Philadelphia 76ers: Life from inside the NBA’s Orlando bubble
The Philadelphia 76ers are officially inside the NBA bubble.
The Philadelphia 76ers’ season is slated to resume on August 1. Until then, the Sixers will live and train inside the NBA’s Disney World bubble. Brett Brown will have roughly three weeks to prepare his troops for a pivotal battle.
Yesterday, the Sixers were part of the last wave of NBA teams to enter the bubble. In order to emphasize social distancing and player safety, the league sent three waves across three days. The players will now isolate in their rooms for 48 hours.
If you ask Rajon Rondo, the rooms aren’t that nice. If you ask Joe from down the street, it’s 48 hours in prime luxury. The food doesn’t look so hot either — Troy Daniels’ Instagram post started a tidal wave of jokes — but fear not, for the food will supposedly improve after the 48-hour isolation period.
Embiid made sure to poke fun at his meal.

If the big fella loses 50 pounds, I’m sure plenty of fans would celebrate.
As for Josh Richardson, he simply chilled, ate a burger, watched a movie, and weighed in on a critical debate involving horses and ducks — in either large or small quantities.
There was, however, some emotional turmoil for one Sixers player. Tobias Harris was blindsided by a heartbreaking development involving his BFF and former teammate Boban Marjanovic, who was seen embracing a new friend from Dallas — a young man by the name of Luka Doncic.
It hit Harris hard, and he may need time to recover. Luckily, he seems to have developed a good perspective on life.
As for Embiid, he expressed concerns over the NBA’s bubble plan. He specifically said he wasn’t confident other players would follow the rules and regulations in order to limit exposure to COVID-19. In a brilliant mix of hilarity and social commentary, Embiid made sure to take extra precautions on the plane ride over.
The heavy-duty mask, the hazmat suit, the gloves, the baby pic — Kyle O’Quinn cracking up in the background. It’s a perfect video. And also a reminder to take this thing seriously. These players are putting the health of themselves and others on the line to play basketball.
The Sixers have relatively high expectations for a sixth seed. With three weeks to prepare and an easy regular season schedule, Philadelphia could provide fans with some much-needed pleasure when the season resumes.
That’s assuming Richardson isn’t overrun by 1,000 duck-sized horses.
