Philadelphia 76ers’ forward Tobias Harris’ play inside Disney Bubble worth his contract.

The Philadelphia 76ers made some questionable moves this past offseason and one of the moves involved re-signing Tobias Harris. Let’s be clear, bring backing Harris wasn’t a bad decision, but signing him to a $180 million contract was. However, his play inside the Disney Bubble is slowly changing that perspective.

It had become clear that during the NBA’s hiatus Tobias Harris was the clear cut off-court leader of the 76ers. I questioned whether or not he could become an on-court leader for the franchise, but with only one regular-season game left in Disney, it’s become clear he can be a leader on the court too.

Does that mean he’s one of the best two players on the Sixers? No, he was the third-best player entering the Bubble and he’s still the third-best player. However, there’s been a big difference in his play. This season, Harris has averaged 19.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 3.1 assists, while converting 47.0 percent of his field goals and 36.4 percent of his 3-pointers.

What he’s done in the Bubble.

More from The Sixer Sense

He’s improved in the Bubble as he’s averaged 22.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists, while making 45.3 percent of his shots and 38.7 of his attempts from downtown. His overall field percent is down, but that’s due to the fact that he’s being more aggressive as a scorer.

In the six games that he’s played in, he’s was Philly’s leading scorer twice and the second leading scorer three times. He’s only scored under 20 points twice and that was against the Washington Wizards and the Portland Trail Blazers. Not a bad showing considering the amount of time off and in fact, it’s pretty impressive what he has done in the Bubble.

This is All-Star level production that the Sixers signed up for during the offseason. It should be noted even if he had his averages from the Bubble for the whole season, he probably still wouldn’t have made the All-Star game this year just based on the talent at his position. However, don’t let that take away from his impressive play inside Disney World.

Harris is still the Philadelphia 76ers’ third-best player, and his All-Star level play in the makes his big contract much easier to accept when he plays more aggressively like he’s done in the Bubble.
