The Philadelphia 76ers already have someone in mind to replace Brett Brown.
Finding a qualified replacement for the recently fired Brett Brown shouldn’t be a hard task for the Philadelphia 76ers. In fact, they already have someone in mind and that person is former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the nice thing is that Lue appears to have a mutual interest in the Sixers coaching vacancy. This isn’t surprising considering that despite the poor roster construction as a whole, the 76ers still have two of the best young talents in the NBA with Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid.
Why Lue makes sense.
Simmons’ skills in particular mirror LeBron James’ who was Lue’s best player back when he coached Cleveland. In the past, I wrote about how Lue fits as a head coach in Philly. Lue’s a proven NBA championship-level coach and former player (ask Allen Iverson), he’s dealt with superstar egos and is a solid “X’s and O’s” coach.

As one can imagine, with that type of resume, the Sixers aren’t the only franchise interested in the current Los Angeles Clippers assistant coach. Both the Brooklyn Nets and New Orleans Pelicans are also interested in Lue’s services, per Keith Pompey of Philly.com.
According to Pompey, Lue wants to coach a contender which means that the Pelicans aren’t a serious candidate for Lue right now. That leaves the Nets who have superstars Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. However, the Nets are also interested in hiring coaching legend Gregg Popovich, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic (subscription need for link in the tweet).
With those factors in mind, it seems like Sixers are the easiest landing place for Lue as the 76ers with Villanova head coach Jay Wright being their only other serious candidate at the moment, per Wojnarowski.
The Philadelphia 76ers will be making a step in the right direction if they can land Ty Lue. Lue’s resume as a player and coach is ideal for shifting the culture in Philly.
