The Philadelphia 76ers are the best landing spot for Tyronn Lue now.
The NBA world was shocked when news broke that NBA Hall of Famer Steve Nash is going to be the next head coach of the Brooklyn Nets, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. The Philadelphia 76ers‘ division rival has hired a brilliant basketball mind to lead their dynamic duo of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, but this hire impacts the Sixers head coaching search as well.
With Brett Brown out, the 76ers are looking for a new head coach. The biggest name that has been connected to the franchise is Tyronn Lue. There’s mutually-interested between the two clubs, but Lue had also been connected to the Nets. However, with the Nets hiring Nash, Lue has one less option.
Philly is Lue’s best option.

With the New York Knicks hiring Tom Thibodeau and the Nets bring in Nash, the only other NBA head coaching jobs left are with the Sixers, Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Pelicans, and Indiana Pacers. Out of those teams, Philly still is the most attractive job left.
The Bulls are in a full rebuild and with an NBA title on his coaching resume, going through a rebuild shouldn’t be attractive for Lue. The Pelicans are an up and coming team but are in the tough Western Conference and aren’t ready to contend yet. The Pacers gig is a tempting job, but their top talent isn’t close to the 76ers.
Despite Philly having a funky roster as a whole, they still do have two of the top-25 players in the NBA in Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons. Lue has worked with elite talent in the past, like LeBron James. The 76ers are the only team with a job opening left that has that type of top-end talent so they make the most sense for Lue who is a championship coach.
It’s been rumored that Lue and the Philadelphia 76ers are getting close to a deal and now with the Nets job filled, the Sixers are the best job still left for Lue.
