4. Kyle Korver

VERDICT: Trick

On paper, Kyle Korver’s appeal is undeniable. A former Sixer and one of the best shooters in league history, he would immediately turn heads on a minimum contract. But, while he wouldn’t be a bad signing, he’s not someone Philadelphia should count on at this stage in his career.

Korver is 39 years old and entering his 17th year in the NBA. He is a putrid defender, and someone no competitive team — not even the Bucks — can feasibly depend on for postseason production. The Sixers could get by with Korver as a bench warmer in a leadership role, but signing him with the expectation of playing him significant minutes — even over the likes of Furkan Korkmaz — could quickly turn disastrous.

It would be nice to see Korver back in a Sixers uniform after all this time. While my verdict is trick, it’s not my intention to say the Sixers shouldn’t go after him. But Korver comes with a cachet and reputation that exceeds his current ability, and it’s likely he would trick some fans into high expectations he will never deliver on.

Last season, Korver hit 41.8 percent of his 3s in 16.6 minutes per game. He can still shoot. The fact is, however, he can’t do much else besides shoot, and the Sixers need more than a one-dimensional shooter to solve their problems.
