Unlike Curry, Milton has the length and height at 6-foot-5 to hold his own defensively at pretty much any perimeter position. Granted he’s not on the same level of a defender as Green and Simmons, but he shouldn’t be a liability.
Milton broke out offensive and had several big games last season. It even impressed Rivers when he coached against Milton as the Los Angeles Clippers head coach. Milton has more potential to still be tapped into and developed.
Last season, he averaged 9.4 points on 43.0 percent shooting from deep. He also has a familiarity with playing with the team’s star duo. Milton’s ability to score on all three levels can’t be something ignored either.
Like Curry, Milton isn’t experienced as a stater either, as he’s only starting 24 of 60 career games. He also showed some timidness within the NBA bubble and maybe starting would put too much pressure on the 24-year-old. I’ve written in the past how it would be better if Rivers used Milton like a sixth man and that argument is still valid as well.
Rivers has a tough choice ahead of him and there’s no easy answer for this one. He just has to weigh the pros and cons and come to a decision. Despite this being an issue for the Philadelphia 76ers, it’s probably a good one for the team to have.
