Philadelphia 76ers: Seth Curry should have a bigger role
It’s rare, but there are players in the NBA that can go beyond expectations but also still leaving you wanting more. The Philadelphia 76ers have a few players like that in Ben Simmons, Matisse Thybulle, and Seth Curry.
I’ve already written on how Simmons will probably never reach his full potential and how Thybulle is a jump shot away from being a starter. With that in mind, it seems appropriate to turn our attention to Curry.
Despite being the younger brother of Stephen Curry and son of Dell Curry, both legendary 3-point shooters, Seth Curry had a hard time breaking into the NBA. I personally remember seeing him play live in the G-League when the then Delaware 87ers took on his Erie Bayhawks. Despite him putting on a show back then, he didn’t make an NBA team until the 2013-14 season and didn’t make a regular rotation until the 2016-17 season.

He’s come a long way as he’s now one of the most accurate shooters in the NBA. For the season, he’s averaging 13.0 points on 48.4 percent from the field, 46.5 percent from the 3-point arc, and 97.7 percent from the foul line. He has a better chance of making the 50/40/90 club than Tobias Harris at this point, but yet, it’s evident he could still do even better.
The Philadelphia 76ers need Curry to be involved more in the offense.
Christopher Kline of The Sixer Sense already wrote, the 76ers need 3-point shots and that starts with Curry. He only attempts 9.3 field goals and 4.4 3-pointers per game, considering his shooting percentages those attempts need to go up.
To be clear, I don’t think he’s going to be as good as his brother, his brother is arguably a top-10 player of all-time. However, as I did say on our recent episode of The Sixer Sense Podcast, I don’t think it’s impossible for him to be around a 20-point scorer.
This season, he’s had five games in which he scored at least 20 points and he never shot below 50.0 percent from the 3-point line in those games. He also averaged 12.6 field goal attempts in those games. Getting him about 3.3 more field goal attempts per game shouldn’t be impossible for head coach Doc Rivers.

It’s true that Curry is already having the best year of his career, there’s little doubt that he could be even better for the Philadelphia 76ers moving forward.
